A major highway has been closed after a truck transporting livestock crashed in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

A white DAF prime mover semi-trailer carrying chickens rolled on Brand Highway southbound in Muchea just before 1am.

The male driver, aged in his 60s, was uninjured.

The crash has caused significant traffic disruptions due to clean up and recovery efforts.

Crews are still working to remove the trailers full of chickens before they can roll the truck over.

Both directions of Brand Highway between Granary Drive and Tonkin Highway in Muchea remain closed.

Main Roads WA urged drivers to seek an alternate route and exercise extreme caution.

The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
