Multiple emergency services crews have responded to a motorboat which burst into a raging fireball at Fremantle’s Challenger Harbour.
Emergency services were alerted to the out-of-control blaze shortly after 4pm on Sunday, August 30.
Dramatic footage from the scene shows the small white vessel completely engulfed in flames, sending massive plumes of thick, toxic black smoke billowing over the city.
The towering smoke plume and intense heat drew a crowd of stunned onlookers. Dozens of people gathered along the harbour’s rocky breakwater to watch the disaster unfold.
The flaming wreck drifted close to passing vessels and at one point struck the rock groyne, where it continued to burn down to the waterline.
Water police were quickly on scene at the incident.
It’s unclear what sparked the fierce inferno.
