Phoenix pegged back ladder leaders Albany Caledonian as the sides battled out a 2-2 draw in the Great Southern Soccer Association’s senior men’s competition on Saturday.

Last season’s cup winners Phoenix twice fought back to level with Jason Bosch bagging the final equaliser in the 79th minute to ensure the teams shared the spoils.

Calies still head the table, but their lead is a solitary point after Polonia walloped Bayswater to end the round breathing down their necks.

Levi Clay gave Calies the lead after only three minutes, however Phoenix levelled through Damian Dekker’s super effort in the 27th minute.

He spotted Calies’ keeper Hugh Price off his line and sent a super chip over his head from distance to make it 1-1.

It was in the 56th minute that Fraser Grant put the defending league champions back in front but Phoenix pressed in the closing stages and Bosch grabbed the equaliser for his third goal of the season.

Polonia made the most of Calies’ slip-up by beating pointless Bayswater 7-2.

The league’s top scorer Escher Nash scored four more goals to take his season tally so far to 12 in seven matches as his side racked up their fifth win.

Bayswater, however, enjoyed a stunning start for despite going behind to Caelen Lambe’s opener, they recovered to lead 2-1 as Henry Goldsmith and Cain Pietropaolo found the back of the net in quick succession.

Their advantage lasted only a minute as Nash grabbed his first to ensure they were level at half-time and then grabbed the next three in a row to put Polonia 5-2 up with 73 minutes gone.

Archie Smith and then Charlie Corson added further goals to complete the scoring and leave Bayswater still seeking their first point.

There seems to be no stopping the unbeaten Caledonian women who have a three-point advantage at the top of the senior women’s ladder.

They put Polonia to the sword 10-2 on Saturday with Abi Matthews booting four goals and Milla Trichilo nabbing a hat-trick.

Polonia grabbed two consolation goals in the last minute through Madison Belfield.

Phoenix are closest in pursuit and saw off third-placed Denmark 4-0 with two goals from Amaya Dobbe and efforts from Lee Dekker and Millie Groenewold.

In the other fixture, Rovers were 6-0 winners over Sharks.

Ella Wierobiej was Rovers’ hat-trick hero with Elana Bastiani adding two goals and Georgia Whitelaw one in their comfortable victory.

In the men’s reserves’ competition, Caledonian were 4-0 winners over Phoenix while Polonia beat Rovers 2-1.
