A truck driver has had a lucky escape after the road train he was burst into flames in Ballaying with firefighters closing the road as they worked to extinguish the blaze.
A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said crews were alerted to the incident between Wagin and Dumbleyung just before 2.15pm on Thursday afternoon.
Crews from Dumbleyung and Nippering Volunteer Fire and Rescue Services, as well as farmer units from nearby properties attended the scene where they found the road train, which was hauling grain along Wagin-Dumbleyung Road, aflame in the middle of the road.
The truck driver was out of the vehicle by the time crews arrived on scene and was uninjured.
Wagin-Dumbleyung Road was temporarily closed in both directions, with the truck engulfed in flames still sitting on the road while firefighters worked on scene to douse the flames.
Drivers were advised by Main Roads WA to seek alternate routes and exercise extreme caution in the area.
The fire was almost extinguished by 2.45pm, but firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour afterwards to make sure the blaze was fully controlled.
